Theresa May steps down as Britain conservative leader

On Friday, PM Theresa May steps down as the leader of the governing Conservatives leading to a contest to replace her which could help her party to embrace a tougher stance on Brexit.

After a failed attempt to deliver Britain from the EU Theresa May announced she would step down last month.

May will continue to do the work of the prime minister until a new leader has been elected by her party, a crowded race that would be defined by Brexit and introduce a new approach on how to deliver Britain’s biggest policy shift in more than 4 decades.

According to May spoke woman, "Before her time in office expired, May will build up the domestic agenda that she has place in the heart of her premiership."

On Tuesday, Theresa May will exchange letters with the chairs of the influential 1922 Committee of Conservative lawmakers, and will then spend the day working in her home.

May's team has intensify their effort to shape her legacy beyond the Brexit failure, however, she bequeaths to her successor a nation where traditional political divides are being eroded by strong beliefs on whether Britain should leave the European Union and how it should do so.

For a couple of weeks now, the decision to replace her has already been heating up with candidates arguing over the rights and wrongs of a so-called no-deal Brexit, or leaving the European Union without a deal.

Official nominations will be received on June 10. The selection process should be completed by the end of July.
