Ukraine maintain unbeaten run to claim FIFA U-20 world cup winner


The FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland has just ended and for the first in history, Ukraine were crowned as Youth Champions with an amazing super performance from the start of the competition to the finish.

Ukraine ended the tournament with unbeaten record in Poland. The only side that did not suffer defeat to the Ukrainians was the Flying Eagles of Nigeria who played a 1-1 draw when both sides clashed in the final group game. Ukraine then went on to eliminate Panama, Colombia and Italy to reach the final. Korea Republic on the other hand, has come one step closer after the semifinal in 1983 and later finishing fourth,

It was an epic match as the game started off on a strong suit as Korea tried to attack as soon as possible. A Korean star was brought down in the box in the second minute and the referee awarded a penalty without hesitation. However, VAR had to be consulted to confirm that the foul was committed inside the box. After the consultation and confirmation of the foul, Korean was denied the penalty.
 Ukraine equalize in the 33rd minute through Suppriaha after the Korean defenders failed to clear a ball from an indirect free kick.  The ball floated in from midfield was headed out by a defender before another Korean player sent it into a dangerous area where Vladyslav Supriaha had very little touch and placed the ball behind the Korean goal keeper.

Korea started the second half with fresh legs as coach Chung Jungyong made a substitution. The Koreans started on the front foot and malt pressure on the Ukraine defence. While the Asians had more of the ball, they could not create clear hances and they were limited to long range shots. However, it was the Europeans that went ahead when Vladyslav Supriaha doubled his goal.

Vladyslav Supriaha was put through on goal by a sensitive pass that split the Korean defence. Another calm finish into the back of the net left the Korean goalkeeper diving full lenght but with no result.

Korea put up a good fight as they tried to get back in the game as it neared the end. Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin was tested severally and his fine stops kept the Europeans ahead of their opponents. Ukraine sat back to protect their lead and attack on the break with Supriaha leading the line and making dangerous runs but due to an injury the striker was substituted after an hour.
Ukraine superbly sealed their victory just before the final whistle after a brilliant solo run from Heorhiy Tsitaishvili resulted in another goal.

The Dynamo Kyiv man turned the defender inside out before strucking a fierce shot that was too much for goalkeeper Gwang-Yeon to handle and Ukrainians held on to their lead to secure their first ever FIFA U-20 World Cup.
